Bummer news

We got a call last night from Cricket (Odessa's mom) about her brother Derek. Derek was driving his truck heading home from riding his new motorcycle with Ben. Someother driver pulled out in front of him and he swerved to avoid hitting him (we think). There was a small cement berm which he hit and started to roll. A few hundred yards later he stopped.

Since this was near the bottom of the Rau's (odessa's family) driveway they were there shortly after it happened and saw him in the wreck. They had to help the paramedics get him out of the truck. They watched the lifeflight take off. I don't know who would have the worse trauma, but I would guess it is Cricket.

He had been out all day riding his new motor cycle (above) and was heading home to clean his room!

He is currently in the ICU. Last night he had his jaw reconstructed. There is blood in his lungs and he has a spiral fracture on the vertebra C2 at the top of the spine.

Below are some pictures of the truck as it sits now. the top was cut off by the paramedics. Last is a picture of Derek in the hospital ER before getting his jaw constructed and cleaned up, it is pretty intense so keep the kids away, or anyone who is queasy near blood (like me).
