Last night Jeff was viciously attacked!
So last night we were coming home from Salem at 9:30. We had just come from a baby shower were we had a very good time with some college friends. Clara was crying, Heidi was singing and I (Odessa) was car sick. Jeff had decided to take the River road way home, which always makes me a little queasy; we were about 2 miles from the bridge into Independence and we come up over a hump in the road and there are 5 tiny kittens huddled in our lane. We stop in time and Jeff yells "Go get them!"
I reply, "Where am I going to put them?"
"I don't know, put them in the car!"
I jump out and am able to grab 2 before they scatter. I try to hold them in the car which proves to be impossible, and they run and hide somewhere in the car. I get back out to help Jeff try to find the rest, no luck. Jeff moves the car so we can try to use the head lights to our advantage, no luck.
We decided to get the girls home and to get the two we had rescued into the house. Once home we find one of the kittens huddled up almost under the dashboard, under the carpet of the car. We empty the entire car and cannot find the other kitten. We do a very extensive search of the car and we cannot find the kitten! We conclude that it must have jumped out when one of us got out of the car the second time. Oh, well we think, no big deal, we tried.
Jeff decides to go back out to see if he can find the others. This time he has a box and a big flash light. He called me after a little while to say that he caught another one and he saw two more.......and the second kitten we caught the first time is still in the car, he heard it scratching in the dashboard, up near the side view mirror.
Jeff decided to hang out for a few more minutes, does a very good momma cat impression and is able to catch the other two! He comes home and we now have 4 kittens on the bath tub and one in the dash board.
It took us about an hour, removing the glove compartment, and nearly decapitating the kitten, but we got it out.
We now have 2 calicoes , 1 black, 1 tuxedo (watch out, this one is a little spit fire), and 1 gray (Dash) kitten. They are all healthy, they are about 6 weeks old, and 4 of the 5 seem to be pretty docile. We are pretty sure they were dumped because they are in really good condition, just a few stickers in them, and no momma cat was ever seen, dead or alive. We don't like people who dump animals, suffering is now way to go.
Most of the scratches Jeff received were actually from the car trying to get Dash out. The girls both did really well through the whole ordeal and our cat Atlas doesn't really seem to care that there are 5 kittens on the house. We did feel loved because many people stopped to see if we were OK, but they left probably thinking we were crazy trying to find kittens in the dark, in the bushes. I think Jeff woke up agreeing with them this morning, but this brings up his animals rescued number up to 8!
Soooo, does anyone want a kitten???!

I don't want any kittens, but what a story! Funny things happen to you guys. I like the "dash" name. Perr-fect.
What a story! Thanks for sharing! If we lived out on the farm we'd take one to keep mice population down in the barn (josh and jake have allergies so no pets in the house =( a year ago + we had to give away our kitties)
I keep forgetting you guys have a blog!
Remember, cats are evil at heart and will eat you if geiven the chance.
Speaking of eating, Jeff, thought you might be interested in this:
