October is our month of birthdays. We celebrated mine the first week of the month, my moms the next, and Clara's on this weekend. Yes Clara is 1!! She has been 1 for 5 whole days and me being a terrible (busy) mother have not blogged about it until now. We had a small party for her on Saturday, a kid friendly potluck. The kids loved having so many finger foods on their plates all at the same time - pickles and raisins and goldfish, oh, my!
Here are a few (OK maybe a lot) pictures of our grand celebration (sorry they're grainy, the resolution got reset on the camera apparently and needs to be fixed, Jeff help!!!) -
The birthday girl!

Yes, Alysun, I know it is cropped funny and there is someone else's feet in the background, but she is cute!

This card was fascinating!

The cake I pulled off in under 2 hours and started dinner at the same time!

Yes, she is holding it in her armpit and is pulling out bites

After dinner and cake, look at that belly!
Today we went out and harvested the rest of our tomatoes (Four 5gal. buckets, oh yeah!) and a bunch of pumpkins for our church college groups harvest party next week and several for my front porch, it looks pretty now. We then rushed to our church business meeting and had a quick dinner. On the way home Heidi asked if we could carve a pumpkin (interpret that as, "Daddy will you carve me a pumpkin while I tell you everything I want on it?") Jeff, being a good daddy agreed. When we got home she started to strip down (last year she carved in panties and a paint smock). Laughing, we told her she didn't have to. She then justified her actions by saying, "Well I have to take my pants down to get my shoes off." HUH?! I guess she just likes to do a lot of things naked. Anyway, here a the artistic results.

Heidi wanted the eyes one oval and one rectangle, with "big tears"

This is the face she wanted daddy to carve,
surprisingly she was happy with the results he gave.
Our evenings HQ came as I had just finished arranging a bouquet of flowers from out garden and I stated, "Is that beautiful or what!" Heidi's come back was, "It's what."
And now and food news flash from Jeff.....Lentil's appear to be okay! Finally some 'filler' food that is cheap year round. Of course there is a specific way to cook them...f
ound here. Also,I have been having luck with 'normal' salads...with homemade dressings of course. Sheesh, 'dess you wrote a lot, but I love you more than the ocean loves the moon.

Happy First Birthday Clara! I love the Big Bird cake you made which I could never do in a million years let alone "throw together" in two hours! Grace likes to do some things naked as well, especially when she plays with her dress up clothes or dances. She inevitably winds up wearing nothing but underwear and a silk scarf. Makes my husband very nervous for the future...
The pictures are really cute. My motto is: better a not-so-perfect picture than no picture at all.
Glad the birthday celebrations went well. Super cute cake!
