Trees were around here were not told they were ever going to have to hold as much weight as they were asked to a few days ago. For about 24 hours starting early Sunday morning we had branches, some the size of trees, falling all up and down the block. We were very glad to move into an established neighborhood with lots of trees, we'll see how many make it. This is our front yard.
That is all the farther I ventured out for pictures today, but hey do I get points for doing it bare foot? Our park has tons of branches down, and the 10 foot hedge we had along our back fence is bent to about 4 feet now.
Really we have made it through very well, neither of our cars were hit, and nothing on our house has been damaged. The fruit trees in our back yard had their branches much closer to the ground this summer when they were full of apples, so they should be fine. And, yes, there are still apples on them! Our neighbors across the street lost their front gutter and the ones next to us lost part of their fence and have a large portion of a tree still on their house. The up side is we are one of a small handful in the neighborhood with a wood stove - can we say FREE WOOD!
We still have not thawed completely from any of the waves of weather we have had in the last week, walking even in our back yard is hard. So next spring we will be cleaning and pruning, and replanting, and pruning, and cutting fire wood and pruning. Hopefully most of our plants have made it. And yes, it is snowing again - this time on top of the ice.
