Did you know my husband is incredibly strong? You may not guess by looking at him that he can bend pipes. But he can! And on Sunday he proved it!
It started out as something that should have taken 15 minutes to fix. The cold water faucet behind out washer has leaked since we bought the house. Two weekends ago we bought and new/used washer dryer set that can stack. So we decided to redo the whole laundry area of our garage and get some covered shelves of some sort to put all our small appliences in (there is no room in our kitchen). Time to replace the facut. This of course entails turning off all the water to the house. So we waited till the girls were both napping and Jeff went to work. BUT instead of the faucet coming unscrewed at either of the two places that it could have it decided to hold strong, break off the mount that was holding it on the wall and proceed to bend the copper piping all the way around the back of the faucet as we twisted to get it off. Of course this was all happening behind the dry wall so we couldn't see what it was doing until it was to late. AND the pipe that wrapped around had to come from some where which happened to be about two feet lower in the wall where it had broken a joint.
So a large hole in our wall, 7 hours, and $250 to a plumber later we move ourselves in to the category of dumb DIYers on this one - but really, how hard should it have been???
Oh, and did I mention that my entire family was here for the last half of this exciting adventure to have a small belated Christmas celebration. We had to go next door to get a pot of water to cook pasta for dinner! Luckily the rest of the meal was done and dishes can wait.
This just proves that no matter when you celebrate Christmas, something is bound to go wrong with the plumbing.

At least you turned the water off first. And that you have good humor about the whole thing. I'm sure your new laundry area will be much more efficient because of the changes. My sister was just saying that in her "dream home" she would have an appliance room where she could leave everything out and ready to go. Sounds perfect.
That sounds miserable.
it all worked out. Jeff is my 'new hero for the day'! Thanks for letting us take over your house, I know that was a lot on you. Mama
