We got news at the end of last week that the vertebra that broke in Derek's neck actually had a whole chip out of it and the piece was moving (scary!). After a very nerve racking appointment that put him in a new neck brace (picture below) and a very uncomfortable night and another x-ray the next day; they found out the piece is moving back to a healable spot (good news). Hopefully this brace continues to work so he can avoid surgery or having a halo put on. It looks like he could be in this brace as long as 4 months (bad news). They will know at the end of next week after more x-rays if the brace is working enough. Derek does seem to be in good spirits and is able to do all the physical things that the doctors are asking him to do with ease. Thank you all for your prayers!

We would also like to say thank you to all who came to our open house yesterday, we had a great time. And to all those who were unable to come, we would love to see you stop by anytime!

What a bummer for your brother. Let's just keep praying that he doesn't have to get a halo! I have a very dear friend that had to have one, and they are indescribably horrible. He looks like he is doing well.... and I can't even tell that he's had his whole jaw replaced. Absolutely amazing what surgery can do!
