Excalibur

Hi all, this is Jeff.
As many know Odessa is a Master Food Preserver. I'm really proud of her for this. On aspect of food preservation is drying food. I really like dried food, you can eat more calories and not be as full since your tummy is only full of food not water.
Anyway, back for my Birthday I bought a high class (were talking 'Putting on the Ritz') food dehydrator. It is an Excalibur brand. these suckers are nice. I picked it up off of ebay for way cheaper than new. The only problem is that I bought a 5 tray system, I should have saved a bit longer and gotten the 9 tray.

I won't bore you with all the details of why it is better, you can find that here. We have used a Ronco style (they look a bit like R2D2) but the hole in the middle really cuts into your usable space. With how much i need ot use a dehydrator have in as much usable space really makes a difference. So far we have made a bunch of Zuchinni chips (salt and pepper, or bbq flavor), banana chips(20 lbs for free), dried figs, and apricot fruit leather.

Dried Zuchinni may be the best thing around, somehow they take on a slight buttery taste..quite delicious.

If you are in the market for a dehydrator (and you should be, they are pretty cool if you do garden or hunt or lik eto dry socks a few at a time or anything like that) I would really recommend the excalibur brand. They are a bit expensive but they dry stuff faster and provide more space to dry saving time. Ask Dess to see our is you are ever here for a class that she teaches...also ask about dehydrated jelly!

And for the reason people check in on family blogs, the kids are still cute and we are healthy.

I have that brand of dehydrater as well, LOVE it, doesn't even compare. My favorite part is the tempature gage, so I'm not drying it with such high heat that it cooks the nutrients out.
